The mounting height of electrical panel mounting brackets is important to determine the mounting height of your electrical panel. Your electrical panel should be mounted so that the electrical cables won’t interfere with walls. The height of the electrical panel should be above that of the wall.
Most electrical panel mounting brackets are designed as a height less than this. This is because the electrical cables have to be connected to the wall at the bottom level and you want the electrical cables to run straight. So if the mounting height is higher than the electrical cable connection point, then the cables are likely to hook on to the wall instead of the ceiling. This is a common issue with many electrical panel mounting brackets.
The good news is that the height of electrical panel mounting bracket is less than the ceiling. The bad news is that you have to use a wall anchor to attach the bracket to the wall.
If you can imagine the electrical panel mounting bracket in the picture above. You can see the hole that the bracket is attached to in the middle. You can see the holes in the electrical box that the bracket is attached to in the middle. If the mounting height is higher than the electrical box connection points, then the cables won’t be able to pass through. This is a common issue with many electrical panel mounting brackets.
There is a solution to this problem. You can use a threaded rod on the electrical box to attach the bracket for mounting. This should prevent the problem, but it does require a bit of extra work. If you have a standard electrical box, then you would simply drill 2/3 of the way through the box. If you have a standard electrical box, you would only need to drill one or two holes for the threaded rod.
If you have a standard electrical box and you need to attach a bracket, the easiest way to do it is to use the screws that came with your electrical box. You don’t actually have to use those screws because the bracket will attach to the electrical box, but you must be sure to use the screws that came with the electrical box.
I know this seems kind of obvious, but the first time I installed a box, I was so nervous I almost broke the screw that came with it. I ended up having to drill a couple of holes before I was able to screw the box in.
And the second time I put the box in, I used the screws that came with the electrical box. While it is easy to screw the electrical box in, it is a good idea to drill the mounting holes out of the wall where you plan on installing it. And if you do, don’t use the screws that came with the electrical box. They were not included in the box so once you finish installing the box, you may want to use the screws that came with the electrical box.
I think the most important thing to remember when installing electrical panels is to make sure that they are level. That way, you dont have to worry about pulling your panel out of the wall, or the panel coming off the panel. One of the last things I did to install my new electrical box was to mark a couple of holes in the ceiling with paint before putting the box in the wall.
So, while you may want to use the screws that came with the electrical box, be sure to make sure that the screws are level and that your panel is level.
